Five cards to win Red Flags, a game a lot like Cards Against Humanity, but instead of filling in the blank, you build a date for whoever is “single” each round, a fictional suitor which the other players then get to add a flaw or “red flag” to, turned into ten, which became fifteen. Before we knew it, we were two rounds deeper in our alcohol consumption, seats pushed closer together as the pub crowded around us. When Roisin and I had made our most recent trip to the bathroom, a perilous journey we each accomplished solo only once (and not to perpetuate the stereotype that women always go to the restroom together, but because P. Mac's toilets lay hostage at the end in a red-walled hallway; the gothic lighting and black and white flooring of which make it feel like Satan himself is waiting for you in the stalls), I had checked my phone and learned two things. The first was the shocking truth that it was 9:00 PM. The second was I had four texts from Taylor, the most recent of which was delivered about thirty minutes prior.

Hi! This is me checking in to see

if you knew about when you’ll be calling.

I can chat whenever. I don’t have any

meetings and can close my office door anytime,

so no worries. Just curious.

I checked your location and you're not at your hotel,

so I’m assuming you're with Nolan. I want to reiterate:

I am not busy today. I am free all day.

Do not leave the attractive

Irish singer because of me.

Love you.
